Giants have been linked as a trade destination for the Falcons’ $180 million quarterback

The New York Giants will find themselves back on the quarterback market, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they tried to find a stopgap option in the short term.

While the future of the position could very well depend on where the Giants land in the 2025 NFL Draft order, it’s not a far-fetched idea for New York to sign a veteran while also selecting a potential franchise player.

Most of the Giants’ options are likely in free agency, but according to ESPN insiders Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, they were recently considered as a potential trade destination for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.

“I could envision the Giants, Jets, Raiders, Steelers, Browns, Titans, Saints, Panthers and Seahawks as teams that could look for a signal caller in the offseason,” Graziano wrote.

“Cousins would be an upgrade for many of the teams you listed. It would make sense for the Giants to have him serve as a bridge starter for a draft pick,” Fowler wrote.

Cousins signed a four-year, $180 million contract with the Falcons last offseason and will have salary cap hits of $40 million in 2025 and $57.5 million in each of 2026 and 2027.

After suffering a torn Achilles tendon that ended his 2024 season early, Cousins got off to a fast start with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions in the first nine games of the season while averaging 258.7 yards per game. However, in the last four games since then, he has failed to throw a single touchdown pass and has thrown eight interceptions.

It would be an odd move for the Giants to forgo draft capital to acquire Cousins and his hefty contract with the plan of drafting a prospect with a top pick.

Still, the NFL is always full of surprises.
