Is “Yellowstone” over? What you should know about the spin-off and season 6

The super-sized finale of the 5th season of Yellowstone aired last night and finally revealed the fate of the Montana ranch after five gripping seasons of power struggles. Now fans are wondering about the future of the neo-Western drama – Will Yellowstone ends here, or is there hope for a sixth season and a new spin-off?

Season 5B premiered on November 10th on the Paramount Network and began with a literal bang: the death of John Dutton (Kevin Costner). Although initially believed to be a suicide, Beth and Kayce’s investigation eventually uncovered the truth: Sarah Atwood, the girlfriend of John’s estranged son Jamie (Wes Bentley), was the mastermind and hired a hitman to commit the murder.

Sarah finally meets her end a few episodes later when she is shot and killed in her vehicle. Tragically, fans also witness the heartbreaking death of beloved cowboy Colby (Denim Richards), who succumbs to his injuries after being kicked in the chest by a horse while helping Carter (Finn Little).

Beth and Kayce are determined to do whatever it takes to save the ranch, especially now that the new governor is moving forward with plans to divide the Yellowstone property for development, contradicting their father’s wishes. It was hinted in the penultimate episode that Kayce is hatching a plan for the future of the Dutton legacy, while fans wonder if Beth will finally take Jamie to the “train station.”

In the finale, viewers witness John Dutton’s funeral, where Beth vows on her father’s coffin to avenge him – and she keeps that promise. In a violent confrontation, she ultimately kills her brother Jamie, stabbing him in the chest during the brutal fight. “I’ll be the last thing you ever see,” she tells him. To cover her tracks, Beth makes a false statement to the authorities, claiming she had an argument with Jamie before he went missing. Rip and Lloyd transport Jamie’s body (surprise) to the train station and leave him to rest next to his biological father, Garrett Randall.

As for the fate of the ranch, the Yellowstone is sold back to the Broken Rock Reservation after Kayce makes a deal with Chief Thomas Rainwater, offering him the same price his ancestor James Dutton (Tim McGraw) once paid: 1.25 dollars per hectare. However, there are two conditions: Rainwater must return the deed to East Camp to Kayce so that his wife Monica and their son Tate have a home, and he must agree never to develop or sell Yellowstone.

The deal is finalized in a ceremonial scene where Rainwater and Kayce seal the agreement with a bloody handshake while Mo (Brings Plenty) sings a song in his native language. “I will protect this for you and all our relatives,” Rainwater tells Kayce, also promising to cover up any trace that suggests the Duttons may have ever been there.

Now that the finale is over, what’s next? Yellowstone? While the series was originally expected to come to an end with Season 5B, recent reports suggest otherwise. Here’s everything we know about the future Yellowstone and the rumored spin-off featuring some of the original characters.

Will there be A? Yellowstone Season 6?

The Paramount Network announced this last year Yellowstone would end with season 5. However, fans don’t have to say goodbye to their favorite characters just yet. While the main series is most likely coming to an end, deadline reported on December 11 that lead actors Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have inked deals to star in a spin-off series, reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively.

Sources say Sheridan is currently working on the spin-off, which is expected to include cast members from the film Yellowstone and will probably have “Yellowstone” in the title.

Puck news first reported about it in August Yellowstone was in talks to continue beyond Season 5, Part 2. deadline then confirmed that the show’s producers, MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, had been negotiating with Reilly and Hauser for several months. At this point, it was unclear whether they would lead a new show or continue the Mothership series.

deadline Nellie Andreeva, co-editor of TV, reported: “The intention remains to continue the story Yellowstone and a source stated that another season wasn’t completely out of the question, with the focus ultimately returning to making her a new series.”

Andreeva continued, “This would allow Paramount Global, Paramount Network’s parent company, to keep the show within the company’s ecosystem, unlike the Mothership series, which already has an exclusive streaming deal with NBCUniversal’s Peacock.”

When asked about the spinoff in an interview in October 20204 with USA todayReilly said: “The truth is that there is nothing final or set at the moment.” She added: “We just want to end this chapter of ‘Yellowstone’ because it deserves it.” We talk a lot about the future, but I just wants everyone to see these last six episodes as their finale. And then if there is a future and Taylor (Sheridan) writes something else for us, we both said we would be there.”

Meanwhile, Hauser shared his thoughts on reprising her roles after-Yellowstone with The Hollywood Reporter in November 2024. “You can go on forever about these two. For them there are no walls and no borders,” he said. “As long as Taylor (Sheridan) wants to write something special, I know Kelly and I would be interested.”

What will Beth and Rip become? Yellowstone Is there a spin-off?

The Yellowstone The series finale sets the stage for a possible Beth and Rip spin-off. Beth buys a new ranch for herself and Rip 40 miles west of Dillon, Montana – far from the airports, tourists and land developers that might disrupt their peace and quiet.

Kayce decides to start his own brand and is shown buying livestock with his son Tate. The final scenes show Kayce and Beth enjoying their new beginning: Kayce at the former Yellowstone East Camp and Beth with Rip in her new home.

While we wait for official confirmation from Paramount about the spinoff, Reilly took to Instagram to say goodbye to the main series. “Whatever the future holds, this is the end of the show we’ve been making for the last seven years,” she wrote after the finale.
