St Louis, MO – A mild and dry start to the week will give way to unsettled weather Tuesday evening, with a 60-70% chance of rain and thunderstorms expected across southeastern Missouri and southern Illinois. Residents along I-44 in Missouri and I-55 in Illinois should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility during the evening commute.

Storms could develop late Tuesday and last into early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis. Although severe weather is not expected, isolated thunderstorms may produce locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Temperatures will also drop to below 30 to 40 degrees overnight.

Until the storms arrive, Monday and Tuesday will remain mostly mild. Monday’s forecast calls for clearing skies and high temperatures reaching the 60s in most areas, although cooler conditions continue in northeast Missouri and central Illinois. Tuesday will start out dry but become increasingly cloudy as temperatures reach the low 50s.

The chance of rain will increase through Tuesday evening as a low pressure system moves through the region, bringing widespread precipitation south of I-44 and east of I-55. Drivers are advised to allow extra driving time on Tuesday evening and exercise caution on slippery roads.

Looking ahead, Tuesday offers relief as skies clear and temperatures settle into the mid-40s. However, a colder trend will follow, with overnight lows falling into the upper 20s and daytime highs falling into the 30s later in the week.

Residents are advised to keep an eye on local weather forecasts and prepare for changing weather conditions throughout the week. For live updates and notifications, see Weather.gov/lsx.
