Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae Says Season 2 Will Have ‘Surprises’ (Exclusive)

Lee Jung-jae teases Season 2 of Squid game.

The actor spoke to PEOPLE at the show’s premiere in Los Angeles on Dec. 12 and said fans have a lot to look forward to for the upcoming season. Jung-jae talks about his favorite part of filming and reveals that “the new games” are the most exciting.

“So I can tell you with certainty that you will have more surprises because there are games within games and I call them psychological warfare,” he explains. “We have so many of them in Season 1. One time you’re enemies, they’ll be enemies, and another time they’ll be friends. So you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

“There are so many twists and turns that you will be in for a big surprise,” he adds.

After the great success of the first season Jung-jae raves about the “biggest series release ever” on Netflix and raves about the fan support he felt when the second season was released.

“I want to say that I know a lot of fans support us,” he notes. “They love us, and what I think is really special about Squid Game is that now I not only have Korean fans, but people all over the world have noticed me and love me. I really like that.”

Squid game is Netflix’s most-watched series in 94 countries, reaching over 142 million member households and 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks. In June 2022, creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk previewed the plot of the second season.

The second part follows Jung-jae, who plays Seong Gi-hun, as he gets back into the game.

“Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up traveling to the States and returned with a new resolution in mind,” the summary reads. “Gi-hun delves into the mysterious survival game again and launches another game of life and death, bringing together new participants to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.”

In addition to Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo are also set to return in Season 2, and although most of the characters were killed off in Season 1, Dong-hyuk told Deadline, “I will.” Try something , to bring her back for season two.
