One night at a party a few weeks ago in New York City, Chase Stokes went behind the bar to make a few dirty martinis — his favorite cocktail and that of country superstar Kelsea Ballerini. “I don’t know if I was allowed to do it,” Stokes says, “but we did it.”

However, this wasn’t just any holiday celebration. That evening, the couple kicked off the gift-giving season at the annual Amazon Holiday Soirée on the High Line.

“I love Christmas,” Ballerini said Rolling Stone on the phone after the party. “I’m lucky because when I was growing up my parents, especially my mother, made Christmas this really magical time every year. So as I entered adulthood, I wanted to continue that in whatever way I could.”

The couple had a busy schedule this year, and in addition to the holiday soirée, they found time to work together on a special project: putting together a few of their favorite holiday gifts in the Amazon Holiday Shop. On the list: everything from records and magazines to dog beds and barware.

To hear that Outer Banks As Star tells it, “We’re literally attached at the hip most of the time, doing something that we both love and care about so much, which is the holidays, our friends and our family, and building something with something and “Amazon feels like a very seamless partnership and it was a fun little evening.”

One of Ballerini’s Christmas favorites on Amazon is a vinyl copy of her latest LP. Patterna 15-track hit with highlights like “First Rodeo,” “Nothing Really Matters,” and the single “Cowboys Cry Too” featuring Noah Kahan.

“I think you can really see what comes to life when you play it live,” the country singer-songwriter says of playing Pattern “And I was very lucky to have Madison Square Garden four days after release because I was able to really see the instant favorites in that short period of time. I think “Baggage” for me is one that really stood out as a live song – a scream-sing moment. I think “First Rodeo” has always been one of my favorites as a songwriter, and I think the musicality of this song is really special. For me, this live album also felt like it needed a completely different life, and it’s a young record…”

“I have to be honest,” Stokes adds, “(‘First Rodeo’) has taken on a life of its own.”

When it comes to Christmas songs, the couple shares their love of everything from Frank Sinatra to Michael Bublé, Elvis and Nat King Cole to ‘Nsync and Bing Crosby – Ballerini says they just played his Christmas album on their new record player. However, those aren’t the only holiday classics they love.

“Personally, and this is a Millennial girl of mine, one of my favorite Christmas records is Jessica Simpson…she’s so good.” And Kelly Clarkson is my other favorite because everything she does is just very timeless to me. “

“It’s Kelly,” Stokes says.

The two have worked together in the past on Ballerini’s latest album, but when asked if the country superstar would ever consider writing a Christmas album herself, she says, “It’s on the wish list.” Still, fans may need something wait longer for Ballerini’s possible Christmas project.

“I think it’s still a thing of the future for me,” says Ballerini. “I want to make sure I’m in a place where I can really contribute to Christmas music, and I feel like there are so many people making great records right now, covering the classics and writing their own, and I want to make sure I have the space to really contribute when I can. But it’s on the list, I’d like to do it one day and I’ll call Kelly if I ever do.”

“I’d love to do (a Christmas album) one day, and I’ll call Kelly if I ever do.”

To celebrate this year’s holidays, the couple plans to gather with family and friends. “We’ve both had a really crazy few months,” Ballerini says. “It was a big year, but this last sprint in particular was a lot. I think appreciating the time together, the time with the dogs, the time with family, the time with friends, the time to cook, the time to actually decorate a tree – all of those things are really important and the opportunity to “To zoom back in for a second and be anchored in reality. Life really matters to both of us.”

And when it comes to making foolproof gifts for family and friends, Ballerini says there are a few options you can take. “There are two types of people you can give gifts to, right? You can either take a very heartfelt approach, and that can be more complex: you can buy a record from someone who loves music. You can gift someone a journal to celebrate their next year. Stuff like that. Or you can make it even sillier – not even all that white, just plain silly – by wrapping gift items, if you will. And I think knowing who you’re buying for means knowing which path to take. And I love both.”
