Latvian basketball player Jānis Timma was found dead in Moscow

As Basketnews.lt reports, Latvian basketball player Jānis Timma has died in Moscow.

Media reports that the body of the 32-year-old basketball player was found in the stairwell of an apartment building in Moscow. Ukrainian media Meduza reports that Russian news agencies Tass and RIA Novosti have confirmed Timma’s suicide.

In October, Timma decided to continue his basketball career in a tournament organized by the Russian bookmaker “Liga Stavok” and represent the “Alikson” team.

Timma, who played his first game for the national team in 2014, has played 35 official games as a member of the Latvian national team, scoring 338 points, but in total the basketball player took part in 56 games of the Latvian national team, scoring 513 points.

The basketball player started last season in the ranks of Istanbul “Darushashfak” in the Turkish championship, but ended the season together with Jānis Sagittarius at the Spanish top league club Santiago de Campostela “Obradoiro”.

The basketball player spent part of the 2022/2023 season without a club and made his debut in the ranks of the Umacao “Grises” in the Puerto Rican championship in March, but after the last four games, Timma and the club parted ways. After that, the Latvian basketball player played a season in the “Big3” league in the “Aliens” unit.

In the first half of the 2021/2022 season, Kraslavian was part of the Russian club Kazan “Unics” and played three Euroleague games in this unit. He spent the second half of the season with the National Basketball Association (NBA) G League team, the Lakeland Magic.

Abroad, the basketball player also played for the teams of Piraeus “Olympiakos”, St. Petersburg “Zenit”, Vitoria “Baskonia” and the Moscow region “Khimki”. During his career, Timma has also represented the Latvian teams “ASK Rīga”, “ASK/”Juniors”, “Liepāja Lions”, “Ventspils” and “VEF Rīga”.
