Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have been asked to reunite for a sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 21 years after their characters accidentally fell in love in a whirlwind of mind games and manipulation.

DailyMail.com can reveal an early script for the upcoming romantic comedy that is in the works. Hudson, 45, is reportedly trying to convince her mother Goldie Hawn to join in.

The highly anticipated sequel, currently titled How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – Again, is set to follow Hudson’s Andie Anderson as she prepares to marry McConaughey’s Benjamin Barry while also dealing with her grapples with her broken relationship with her mother.

Hudson is calling on Hawn, 78, to join her, but the Hollywood veteran fears she will have a hard time playing a strained mother-daughter duo when the two are so close in real life.

“The only reason Goldie isn’t 100 percent ready to commit is because the two of them have a very strained relationship in the new film,” an insider told DailyMail.com. “In real life, Kate and Goldie are more like sisters than mother and daughter.”

“They all share their secrets and Goldie was even there for the birth of Kate’s three children.”

The popular romantic comedy revolved around magazine writer Andie and advertising executive Benjamin, who fall in love despite the former trying to scare him off within ten days as part of an idea for a feature film. There are plans for a sequel to begin filming next year.

Christine Peters’ Marmont Lane Entertainment also returns as producer after helming the original adaptation.

In July, Hudson announced that she and McConaughey were “totally open” to reprising their roles for a sequel.

“I think they (studios) are always thinking about it,” she said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

“All that matters would be the script and whether Matthew and I would be interested in the script.” I think we’re both completely open; it’s just never happened before.’

McConaughey, 54, previously claimed the film was perfect for a sequel, telling E!’s Daily Pop in 2020: “I mean, ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ is, you know, for prepared a sequel.” You could easily make a sequel. And that was really good.

The couple recently made a nod to the film, with McConaughey teaming up with his wife Camilla Alves to recreate the film’s poster.
