Light snow tonight, our biggest snowfall of the season on Thursday

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Tuesday won’t be as warm as Monday, but it will still be close to mild outside. Like yesterday, air temperatures remain largely stable.

A few light snow showers are possible tonight, but our best chance of snow remains Thursday. A first weather alert day could be issued in the future.

This time they will be in the mid to upper 20s. Morning lows will be close to the highs we are used to this time of year.

A few more snow showers are forecast for this evening. There will be isolated snow, but the snow will generally be less than 2.5 cm across the board. The only communities that have the potential to gain more than an inch are those in the Northwoods on Lake Superior and near the Michigan-Wisconsin border.

Thursday remains our best chance of snow for the remainder of this week. An Alberta Clipper will sweep the state. The highest snowfall amounts will be in our southwest on the Wisconsin-Minnesota border. The Twin Cities and southeastern Minnesota would also be included in the highest totals. There is still a scenario that the heaviest snowfall will pass through our region. Because we are not in the target area, a first weather alert day has not been added, but many of us are aiming for some of our highest weather accumulations of the season so far.

If the heaviest snow continues to be southwest of us, our highest snow totals will be around 2 to 4 inches. However, if we are hit directly, a FAWD will be issued due to the possibility of 4-6+.

If there is more snow this week than it has the potential to last long term. The rest of this week will see mid to low 20s highs and upper teens through this weekend. As for morning lows, we will also have a few chances of single digits later this week.
