House GOP lawmakers reject committee assignments to devote time to DOGE

A Republican lawmaker says she will forego many of the GOP House Conference’s traditional day-to-day obligations and suggests she will devote more time to supporting the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Rep. Victoria Spartz, R-Ind., said she plans to decline all House committee assignments assigned to her and will refuse to attend weekly House Republican conference meetings.

“I remain a registered Republican but will not sit on committees or participate in the caucus until I see Republican leadership in Congress,” Rep. Victoria Spartz, R-Ind., wrote on X Monday evening.

“I don’t need to be involved in circuses. I would rather spend more time helping (DOGE)…to save our republic as mandated by the American people.”

Spartz did not elaborate on how she would focus her efforts on DOGE.

She pushed back against Republican leadership in the House of Representatives several times during the 118th Congress, primarily on issues of government spending and the national debt. She is currently a member of the House Judiciary Committee.

DOGE is a non-binding advisory panel commissioned by President-elect Donald Trump to recommend areas for spending cuts and improving the efficiency of the federal government.

He put Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy in charge, and the effort was met with enthusiasm from House Republicans.
