Oscars 2025: Trent Reznor, Daniel Blumberg, National’s Bryce Dessner and more make music shortlist

The shortlists for the music categories of the 2025 Oscars can be found here. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences listed Daniel Blumberg, Bryce Dessner, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Hans Zimmer among potential nominees for best original score. Reznor and Ross are also nominated for best original song, as are Maren Morris, Pharrell Williams and others. Check out the shortlists below.

In the “Best Original Music” category, Reznor and Ross (challenger) and the former Yuck frontman Blumberg (The brutalist) are shortlisted by Bryce Dessner (Singing Singing), perennial nominee Danny Elfman (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) and Hans Zimmer (flash), winner 2023 Volker Bertelmann (conclave) and other.

Maren Morris and her co-writers are aiming for a nomination for best original song Wild robot Song “Kiss the Sky”. Pharrell Williams made it onto the shortlist for the title song piece by piece Film. The shortlist also includes several songs by Emilia Perez: Clément Ducol and Camille wrote the song “El Mal” for the performers Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón and “Mi Camino” for Selena Gomez.

Along with the music categories, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the shortlist for Best Documentary. The package includes the documentary by director Gary Hustwit Eno.

The nominees for the 2025 Golden Globe Awards were recently announced, and there is overlap with the Oscars shortlists. All but one of the nominees for Best Original Score – Motion Picture are on the Oscar shortlist, the only holdout Dune: Part Two. The film was scored by Hans Zimmer, who is being considered instead flash.

As far as songs go, only one Golden Globe nominee isn’t on the Oscars shortlist: Miley Cyrus, Lykke Li and Andrew Wyatt Last Showgirl Song “Beautiful That Way.”

The 2025 Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 2nd at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. Conan O’Brien will host.
