Snapchat is joining the rewind trend this year with Snap Recap

It seems like every other online service, from Amazon Music to Google Photos, is following the year-in-review trend that Spotify popularized with “Wrapped.” And it looks like Snapchat didn’t want to miss out on the fun, so the company just released its own Snap Recap this year.

Snapchat shared a blog about Snap Recap on December 9th, which announced a number of new features and also mentioned that a recap would be coming on December 17th. Well, it’s here now, showing your year in a snap and what you’ve done on the app over the last year. The best part is that it is available for both free and Snapchat+ users.

Where to find your summary

If you want to see how much you snagged this year, head over to Snapchat camera and swipe up to access it Memories Tab. You can find one here Your short review of 2024 Field you can tap to reset the clock.

Find your Snap Recap

This was my most active year on Snapchat. So suffice to say, I was pretty excited to see what my summary had in store for me. Snap Summary first shows your top friends, the person you shared the most snaps with, new friends you added this year, total snaps sent, top lenses you used over and over again , and the number of snaps received.

You’ll also get insight into where you compare to other Snapchat users when it comes to chatting with friends, sending Snaps, and sharing Stories on the app.

Seems like a last minute decision

As with other summaries, I expected the Snap Summary to show my basic stats, like the total number of Snaps sent and the new friends I added. But the fun factor was missing. There’s no music, no animations, or at least a funky AI-generated background. Just your stats along with your Bitmoji against a black background. It felt more like an amateur PowerPoint presentation.

This makes me wonder what time it is to make a decision. We know that Snapchat is the first to get on the trend bandwagon. I saw it with all the half-assed AI features they introduced last year. And this seems to be a similar story. But that doesn’t mean everything is bad. I think Snapchat could do a lot better and maybe next year I’ll share more positive thoughts about it.

But what do you think about it? Did you enjoy your Snap Recap this year? Did you expect something more from it? Let us know in the comments section below.
