Madison Police Investigate Possible Manifesto and Motive of Suspected Abundant Life Christian School Shooter | News

Police and city officials provide new information about Monday’s school shooting.

MADISON (WKOW) — Madison Police Department investigators are working to determine the motive behind a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School on Monday.

“Everyone was targeted,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said in a press conference Tuesday, adding that “everyone at the school was put in danger.”

Chief Barnes said his investigators are aware of and are reviewing a written document or manifesto that the suspected shooter, Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow, a 15-year-old student at the school, may have written. He said investigators had not determined at this point whether Rupnow was the author and asked that the document not be shared.

Investigators are also looking into Rupnow’s online activities.

Chief Barnes said the preliminary investigation shows the motive was a combination of factors, but he declined to release further information to protect the integrity of the investigation.

The conditions of the injured people were the same, Chief Barnes said:

  • Two students with life-threatening injuries, in critical condition
  • One teacher, three students with non-life-threatening injuries; two were released from the hospital

A teenage student and a teacher were killed. According to Chief Barnes, the teacher was a full-time employee.

Chief Barnes shared this information with CNN on Tuesday morning. He also confirmed that a substitute teacher was injured in the shooting.

Rupnow died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
