Teddy Bridgewater has his sights set on a comeback.

The former NFL quarterback, who just led Miami (Fla.) Northwestern to a state championship as a high school football coach, told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero that he would like to return to the sport’s highest level as a player .

“That’s the plan,” Bridgewater said Tuesday. “My team knows that’s the plan. We wanted to win a state championship and then the coach goes back to the league, sees what happens, and then comes back in February in the offseason and continues to coach high school football. We’ll see how it goes.”

Bridgewater retired after the 2023 season and seemed content to walk away.

“Everything happens for a reason,” Bridgewater said told reporters last December. “Injuries, ups, downs, the success, the failures. It all builds character, and that’s exactly what it did for me. Like I’ll never look like, ‘Oh man, what if?’ No. Whatever was meant for me, it turned out exactly the way it was meant to. And I still have that attitude and I’m just really grateful that I’m in 10th grade. I tell everyone that this is my last year, so I’m in my last year and I’m just enjoying everything, man.

The Louisville native entered the NFL as a first-round pick in 2014 and played for the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions throughout his career.

When he was a Pro Bowler in 2015, he looked like the quarterback of the future for the Vikings, but he missed the 2016 season with a knee injury and then made just six total starts from 2017 to 2019.

Bridgewater then started 15 games for the Panthers in 2020 and 14 games in 2021 for the Broncos before starting two games at Miami in 2022 and appearing in just one game for Detroit in 2023.

At his best, he threw for more than 3,000 yards three times in his career. While he’s no longer the same version of himself at 32 years old and one year out of the league, he could still provide veteran leadership as a potential replacement for a team in need of quarterback depth.

Since his retirement, he has wasted no time in establishing himself as an effective high school coach.

Bridgewater took the reins at his alma mater, Miami Northwestern, and led the program to a 12-2 record and the Division 3A Florida High School Athletic Association title. His team defeated Raines 41-0 in the state title game.
