Alabama Football adds SEC defensive lineman from transfer portal

The college football transfer portal window is wide open and the Alabama Crimson Tide is seeing players come and go as the offseason begins. Alabama has already celebrated the return of tight end Danny Lewis Jr. and cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe from flirting with the portal, and now the Crimson Tide can celebrate a real win as Alabama signs former Florida defensive back Kelby Collins from the portal.

Collins is a former 4-star recruit from Gardendale High School in Alabama in the class of 2023 who has decided to play for the Florida Gators. He appeared in 18 games for the Gators over the last two seasons, recording 29 total tackles with 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Collins appeared in six of Florida’s first seven games, but had not seen action since a mid-October game against the Kentucky Wildcats.

Looking to help a defensive line that already has three players entering the transfer portal, the 6-foot-2, 280-pound defensive lineman will be hit hard by the graduation since Tim Keenan, Jah-Marien Latham and Tim Smith are all ineligible .

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, December 9th and will close on Thursday, December 28th. The Spring Portal window remains open and opens on Wednesday, April 16th and closes on Friday, April 25th.
