The Chicago Bears wide receiver summarized his team’s performance after Thursday’s 20-23 loss to the Detroit Lions.

Moore told reporters that the team would be “s–t off the bed” if there were any chances of winning close games this season:

It seemed like the Bears might stun the NFL world with a late comeback against the 11-1 Lions when Caleb Williams put them in scoring position in the final minute. However, he got a sack with 32 seconds left, knocking them out of field goal range.

Instead of calling his team’s final timeout, head coach Matt Eberflus watched the clock tick down as the offense struggled to get into position. Chicago didn’t make it until just seconds remained, meaning Williams had to throw a pass into the end zone that was incomplete.

This is nothing new for the 2024 Bears, who also lost in their last game against the Washington Commanders by a Hail Mary and in their last game against the Green Bay Packers by a blocked field goal. They also lost to the Minnesota Vikings in overtime, meaning they suffered four defeats in their final games this season alone.

The Hail Mary was largely a coaching issue, as Chicago failed to guard the sideline on the second-to-last play of the game so the Commanders could get into position to throw it. There was also no timeout called to settle things before the Hail Mary and the decision was made not to apply pressure, leaving the receivers only time to get into the end zone.

As for the Packers’ loss, Williams put Chicago in position to kick the game-winning field goal.

But Eberflus decided not to make any further plays because he had a timeout in the final 30 seconds and settled for a 46-yard field goal, which was blocked.

It was a season to forget for Eberflus and the Bears, especially since they came so close to breaking through in those narrow losses.
