Brock Bowers breaks two Raiders franchise records in a loss to the Broncos

It was a tough day for tight end Brock Bowers in the Week 12 loss to the Denver Broncos, but the Las Vegas Raiders’ superstar rookie still managed to break two franchise records.

Bowers managed just four catches for 38 yards in the loss and was largely shut out thanks to steady coverage from Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain, but those catches set two Raiders records.

Bowers is now up to 74 catches this season, the most catches ever for a Raiders rookie, passing wide receiver Amari Cooper, who had 72 catches during his rookie season in 2015.

Additionally, Bowers has the most catches through the first 11 games of a season for a Raiders pass-catcher in franchise history, surpassing NFL legend and Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, who had the previous best mark with 73.

In case you’re wondering, Bowers is 33 catches away from breaking the team’s record for most catches in a single season. That record belongs to tight end Darren Waller, who had 107 in 2020.

To break Waller’s record, Bowers will need to average 5.6 per game over the last six contests. Bowers is just 13 catches away from breaking the rookie tight end record for most catches in a season in NFL history. He needs just two per game over the last six games to reach Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta (86).

In a disastrous season for the Raiders, Bowers was one of the few bright spots. The Georgia product has reflected exactly the generational talent he was credited with coming out of college.

Unfortunately, thanks to the outstanding performances of quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix, it will be an uphill climb when it comes to winning the Rookie of the Year award, but that doesn’t take away from his incredible performance this season.

Bowers will look to continue his march into NFL and franchise history when the Raiders take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13 on Friday.
