Weather in Minnesota: Quiet Wednesday with Clipper bringing increased snow Thursday

It will be a quiet Wednesday with partly cloudy skies and steady temperatures, but a clipper system will accumulate snow across Minnesota on Thursday.

What we know: Wednesday will see a mix of sun and clouds with northwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will remain fairly consistent in the low to mid 20s, although it will feel like they will be in the low teens. The daily high temperature in the Twin Cities metro is 23 degrees.

A clipper ship will leave southern Canada on Wednesday evening and move through the region on Thursday. Snow is expected to begin Wednesday evening and continue for much of our daylight hours Thursday.

What to Expect: About 1 to 3 inches of snow could accumulate in the morning, with lighter snow accumulations expected in the afternoon. The majority of the snowpack will fall near and along the I-94 corridor.

A southeasterly breeze will result in reduced visibility in open areas for some. While this may not be the primary concern, it will make for more difficult and difficult travel on Thursday.

What’s next: The snow will taper off fairly quickly Thursday evening and cold air will move in to close out the week. Temperatures will only reach freezing point on both Friday and Saturday.

We begin to emerge from this brief cold snap on Sunday, with mild weather setting in on Monday and possibly lasting much of next week.
