Iowa State falls to No. 4 UConn

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Iowa State (9-4, 0-0 Big 12) fell to No. 4 UConn (10-1, 0-0 Big East) 101-68 in the Invesco QQQ Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase on Tuesday night. .

UConn was successful, hitting 10 3-pointers in the first game, led by Ashlynn Shade with 20 points, including 6 of 6 shooting from the 3-point line. The Huskies were unstoppable with a school-record 20 3-pointers, while three of them scored over 20 points. Sarah Strong led with 29.

Audi crooks was tops for Iowa State with 22-of-9-of-14 shooting, her third straight 20-plus game and seventh of the season. Sydney Harris made 17 shots at 75 percent from the field and made five of ISU’s eight triples.

How it happened

Crooks put the first points on the board while UConn scored the next eight. Crooks stopped the run with a layup, but the Huskies continued to fire hot with their fourth early 3-pointer to build a 14-6 lead with 5:59 left in the first frame. Another shot from deep pushed the lead to double digits at the media timeout, and UConn followed with a total of 10 3s in the quarter en route to a 36-10 lead.

Paige Bueckers hit her fourth three-pointer on as many attempts to extend UConn’s lead, followed by ISU with an early timeout at 8:46. Emily Ryan made a 3-point play that gave five straight points for Iowa State, but UConn’s lead remained over 20. With six minutes left in the half, Harris made the Cyclones’ first three-pointer and hit another pair. The run continued until 11 in a row Addy Brown sent a jumper, cutting the deficit to 14 (47-33). At halftime, UConn led 54-34.

After UConn went on a 12-2 run, Arianna Jackson fired a 3 but couldn’t stop the Huskies. UConn again scored eight goals and was 74-42 at the media timeout. The Huskies seemingly continued to miss third and scored their 16thTh lead by 32 with 4:03 on the clock and UConn would lead 81-52 entering the final frame.

UConn won the contest 101-68.

ISU now moves on to Big 12 play, traveling to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State on Saturday, December 21st at 4 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

  • Ryan’s career score of 1,402 also placed her at No. 16Th all-time by an Iowa State player. Her nine points on the night surpassed Chelsea Poppens’ 1,400 points.
  • Sydney Harris made a season-high five three-pointers in 24 minutes of play. Harris also scored a season-high 17 points.
