The state estimates that damages from Hurricane Milton increased by an additional $100 million

More than 313,000 insurance claims were filed in Florida due to Hurricane Milton.

The Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) maintains a running inventory of claims filed since the storm struck the Gulf Coast on October 9th and crossed the peninsula before exiting into the Atlantic Ocean on October 10th. There are currently a total of $3.448 billion in insurance claims due in Florida Milton.

That’s the number determined on December 11, and a jump of more than $100 million from the published figure just before Thanksgiving Dayas the storm caused a total of $3.334 billion in damages. The OIR publishes and tracks hurricane insurance loss figures on its website Disaster loss data and reports.

A total of 313,547 insurance claims were filed in the Sunshine State due to Milton. That’s an increase from the last state report of 302,581. Of the most recent claims, 248,812 are residential property claims and 14,805 are commercial property claims.

The state regulator stopped releasing new damage figures for Hurricane Helene on November 18. But that storm, which hit Florida’s Big Bend area on Sept. 26 before sweeping inland and wreaking havoc in Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee, resulted in $1.99 billion in property insurance claims in the state.

Helene led to a total of 135,505 claims in the state following the outbreak. Around 60,843 were home ownership registrations. A further 4,342 commercial property claims were attributed to Helene.

Combined, the two storms that hit Florida within two weeks of each other have caused an estimated $5.324 billion in estimated insurance loss costs this year.

Adding in estimated insurance claims from Hurricane Debby, which struck the Big Bend area on August 8, insurance claims in the state add an additional $130.996 million in damages. The total estimated damage from the hurricane through insurance claims this year is $5.455 billion.
