When Steve Harvey sent fans into a frenzy with his hilarious video about being poor

Remember when Steve Harvey made everyone laugh with his funny video about being poor? His perfect sense of humor and relatable jokes delighted fans. It’s one of those classic Steve Harvey moments that still puts a smile on people’s faces!
In a video from his 1997 HBO comedy special Steve Harvey: One Man, the comedian jokes about being broke and enjoying free things.
“I’m 38 years old and have been poor for 36 years,” he says, causing the crowd to laugh. “I do not lie. I only got some money the summer before last. I’m so happy to have money that I don’t know what to do. Being poor was really hard for me.”
He continued by saying that being “poor” means a special appreciation for free things like “government cheese,” which people with money wouldn’t really understand. “I was standing in line for some cheese. I’ll be standing in line all day!” he says.
“My first half-hour HBO special in Dallas, Texas,” Harvey said in describing his debut on the premium cable channel. “The young man developed skills.”
As soon as he shared the video, likes and comments poured in from all sides. While one fan wrote: “If you’re that poor you suck,” another added: “HE SAID GOVAMINT CHEESE!” HAhahahahahahaha! ooh Sh!# that was funny!’
In another video, Harvey also gave his fans some advice on how to deal with haters. “Don’t give in to the haters, just keep going,” he had said in his “Brain Drops” segment on YouTube. “Don’t stop committing to something that has no impact on where you go. They have no power unless you allow them to.”
Fans had praised him then as much as they did back then for his blossoming comedic skills. While one fan said, “All in truth,” another added, “You’re right, haters make me stronger.” A fan also shared, “I loved these new videos!! Thanks Steve, that’s exactly what I needed today!”
