Miami Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa can’t win in cold weather again

The Miami Dolphins looked like turkeys in prime time and couldn’t quite suppress the fact that they can’t win in cold weather.

On Thanksgiving, Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins fell 30-17 to the Green Bay Packers in a feast that was about as exciting as cranberry sauce on dinner.

Not much.

Tua, Dolphins can’t beat good teams in cold weather; It’s a fact!

To be fair, Tagovailoa wasn’t shabby.

He threw for 365 yards (37 of 46) and two touchdowns, but couldn’t make the long ball work against an aggressive Packers secondary.

Short passes from Tua made Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith a star and can’t stand in the Thanksgiving spotlight with 10 catches for 113 yards.

In an offense featuring Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the deep ball should be a regular hit. But Miami couldn’t break through the second layer of defense.

As much as the deep ball was a problem for Miami, their bread and butter, it was the abundance of the running game that caused the Dolphins’ offense to falter and never really get going.

The Packers defense limited the Dolphins’ rushing to 14 carries for 39 yards (2.8 yards per rush).

The Green Bay Packers are looking to break into the top tier of NFC contenders like the Lions, Eagles and Vikings and have shown that their young roster maintains a late-season focus, making Matt LeFleur’s team the leading contender.

Packers quarterback Jordan Love played efficiently, completing 21 of 28 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Jacobs added 23 touchdowns for 117 yards and one touchdown.

But the most glaring narrative from this game Thursday night is the inability of Tua, coach Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins to win games in cold weather.

When it’s 50 degrees or less when they play, Tua and the Dolphins (who are used to the nice South Beach weather) tend to perform poorly and lose.

The narrative also picks up a storyline from the 2023 season, when Tua couldn’t beat teams over .500, period.

“I’m looking forward to killing narratives” Tagovailoa said to reporters before Thanksgiving game. “Let’s go. Let’s go.”

Well, Tua is now 0-7 in games where temperatures are below 45 degrees. The story lives on!

Tagovailoa’s completion rate is 14 percent lower in cold temperatures, and he has more turnovers than touchdowns in most of those matchups.

Miami fell to 5-7 while Green Bay improved to 9-3.
