The article about Steve Harvey’s death comes from a fake news site

The article was shared by a popular news app on Wednesday morning, leading some to believe that Harvey had died.

ATLANTA – An article suggesting that popular entertainer Steve Harvey has died originated on an apparently AI-generated content website, and as of Wednesday morning there was no serious indication of any change in his health as his official social media Accounts continued to post regularly.

11Alive has reached out to its representatives for an official statement, but the article published in Trend Cast News echoes another article also published this week that said “Property Brothers” star Drew Scott had died (he did not die).

The article, titled “Steve Harvey Passes Away Today: Remembering the Legacy of a Comedy Legend,” was posted with the tag “Technical Future Predictions” and dated tomorrow (December 19). It was then reposted by the popular Newsbreak app, scaring some fans.

The front page of Trend Cast News is filled with articles about celebrities’ health, relationships, family members and other aspects of their lives, obviously framed by search algorithms. None have a named author.

It’s not clear who owns the domain for Trend Cast News, although it appears to be hosted by a service provider based in New Jersey.

Meanwhile, Steve Harvey’s official Facebook account regularly posted several times on Wednesday morning. His X account also posted with no signs of anything unusual.

Harvey, who owns a home in Atlanta and is 67, was also the subject of fake reports of his death in October. At the time, Snopes spread a false rumor that he had died in a “tragic accident.” He was also the subject of murder rumors in November and March 2023, according to Snopes reports.

The interest generated on Wednesday, particularly by Newsbreak’s recirculation of the “Trending Cast News” article, resulted in Harvey being the No. 1 Google trend that morning.
