Trinity Rodman talks about strained relationship with Father Dennis Rodman

National Women’s Soccer League star Trinity Rodman shares the hard truth about her relationship with her NBA legend father Dennis Rodman.

In a new interview with Alex Cooper about her Call her dad On the podcast on Wednesday, December 18, Rodman spoke like never before about the strained relationship between her and the NBA Hall of Famer. “He is human. He is not a father. Maybe through blood, but nothing else,” Trinity, 22, said while talking about his role in her life.

The “Washington Spirit” star has largely avoided talking about Dennis’ role in her life, but said this interview was “my opportunity to talk more – I don’t want to say anything negative, but more realistic about it.”

Trinity said her mother, Michelle Moyer, tried to stay with Dennis but knew it wasn’t best for her daughter and Trinity’s brother DJ, 23.

“We tried to live with him but he throws parties 24 hours a day. He brings random bitches,” the Olympic gold medalist said. “My mother didn’t want to – she was strong enough to deal with it, because to this day. “I still think my father never loved anyone after my mother.”

“I think my mom just saw the situation: ‘We love each other.’ “It won’t work,” Trinity said. “For my children’s sake, I can’t let them watch you treat me like this, embarrass me like this, and have the party scene all the time.”

Moyer filed for divorce in 2004, a year after marrying Dennis, but the marriage was not dissolved until 2012. At that point, “we were seeing him once, two, three, four times a year,” Trinity said of her father.

She also pointed out that lack of money was a major factor growing up, as she described Dennis as “controlling” when it came to supporting her and her brother financially, which led to her living with her mother for a time lived in an SUV.

“Before the divorce happened, my dad actually helped financially. … He would actually give my mom money and give us a little bit of life,” Trinity said. “When the divorce happened, it was just like, ‘F— people.’ … We get just enough money to pay the rent.”

“My father, he likes to be in control. So he took us shopping, got us phones… and me and my brother were like, ‘We don’t want to go shopping, we just want money to do things with our friends after school,'” she continued.

Trinity also said Dennis’ well-publicized struggles with substance abuse and “partying around the clock” were a constant presence throughout his childhood.

“He is an alcoholic. That’s something I don’t want to say, but I’m just like, shit. It’s just the truth,” she said.

Currently, she says her relationship with her father is a work in progress and she is heeding his calls for her “conscience.”

“If something happens, God forbid, I want to know that I did it. Or if he needed to hear my voice before something happened,” she said. “That’s why I answer the phone, not for myself.”
