Glanton Elementary, located about two miles from Calico Loop, is under Code Yellow safety precautions. Dismissal was delayed, but students were released at 3:30 p.m

The school district described a yellow code to 11Alive as “not a lockdown, but a higher alert level,” and the Newnan Times-Herald reported last year that the district does not view the yellow code as a sign of imminent danger on campus or in school buildings, but as something initiated during an off-campus law enforcement situation.

The sheriff’s office told 11Alive in a separate statement that GSP was the primary agency in this situation.

This is a developing story. 11Alive is working to learn more about how the situation began.

A viewer sent 11Alive’s Cody Alcorn a photo of a GSP SWAT.

The 11Alive Skytracker also flew over the scene, where several police cruisers can be seen surrounding railroad tracks near a wooded area.
