Trinity Rodman, the Olympic gold medalist and daughter of five-time NBA champion Dennis Rodman, criticized her father for being absent for most of her life on the Call Her Daddy podcast.

“He is not a father. Maybe through blood, but nothing else,” she told host Alex Cooper. “Hearing his voice is painful.”

CNN has attempted to reach Dennis Rodman for comment.

Although her father reportedly earned more than $27 million in salary over the course of his NBA career, Trinity explained that at one point she was forced to live in a car, according to SpotRac.

“We had (a Ford) Expedition and lived there for a while,” she said. “We tried living with him but he throws parties 24/7 and brings random sluts over. He loves the spotlight. He loves the cameras.

“Before the divorce (from Trinity’s mother, Michelle Moyer, in 2012), my dad actually helped financially,” she continued. “He actually gave my mom money and let us live life for a bit, but then when the divorce happened he was like, ‘F**k you!’

“I think he is an extremely selfish person,” she added. “I think everything was always about him.”

Trinity has 10 goals and nine assists in 45 appearances for the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT). She was one of the stars of the team that won gold at the Paris Olympics this year, contributing three goals and an assist, including an overtime winner in the quarterfinals against Japan.

When she was drafted by the Washington Spirit in 2021 at the age of 18, she was the youngest player ever drafted into the NWSL at the time. This season, Dennis showed up unannounced to the Spirit’s quarterfinal playoff game against the North Carolina Courage after not speaking to his daughter in months.

“When he showed up at my game, I was so angry,” the Spirit forward recalled. “I started crying on the field. So I try to play the football game and cry.”

The Spirit won the game 1-0 and went on to win the NWSL title, but Trinity was angry with her father.

“I was so angry. I thought, “You’ve taken this happy moment away from me.” “You’ve turned my head again,” she said. “I walk over there (towards Dennis) and I’m so angry, like I’m going to say ‘F**k you.’ I go there, he grabs my head and I just start crying into his arms like it’s father-daughter (wait).”

The resulting hug went viral and Trinity posted an Instagram post expressing her hope that their relationship could improve.

“After that there is radio silence. “I just saw him this year,” she told Call Her Daddy host Cooper. “I’m stupid for thinking this would be some kind of new spark. That was me every time. He came over and I said, “Okay, here it is again.” We’re going to start something. He will be near.’ Boom, months and months and months (without speaking to him). This time it was years.

“I think after that I lost hope of ever getting him back.”

Dennis met Trinity’s mother, Michelle Moyer, in 1999. Trinity’s brother – Dennis “DJ” Jr. – was born in 2001, followed by Trinity a year later. The couple married in 2003 before Moyer filed for divorce in 2004. After a period of reconciliation, they divorced in 2012.

The seven-time NBA rebounding champion, who didn’t meet his own father until he was in his late 30s, has previously expressed his desire to be a better parent.

“For some reason, I find it very difficult to break out of this cycle,” he told ESPN in 2019. “I never had anyone do that for me.”
