Frito-Lay Announces Limited Recall of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips: FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced a “limited recall” of one of the most popular potato chips in the United States due to an undeclared allergen.

According to a statement from Frito-Lay released Monday by the FDA, the recall affects certain 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips.

Officials said the bags could contain undeclared milk. Frito-Lay told FOX Business that 6,344 bags were affected by the recall.

“The product included in this recall was distributed to certain retail stores and e-commerce merchants in Oregon and Washington,” the company said in a statement. “Consumers could have purchased these chips as early as November 3, 2024.”

Frito-Lay urges consumers to look for a “Guaranteed Fresh” date marked “11. FEB 2025” and a manufacturing code of either 6462307xx or 6463307xx. Any bags containing this information should be discarded by consumers with milk allergies.

“Individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk are at risk of experiencing a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product,” Frito-Lay’s statement said.

The press release said the undeclared milk was found “after being alerted by a consumer contact,” but said no allergic reactions occurred.

“To date, no allergic reactions have been reported in connection with this matter,” the statement continued. “No other Lay’s products, flavors, sizes or variety packs are being recalled.”

It is not uncommon for a grocer to recall a product due to undeclared milk allergens. In March, a Pennsylvania-based company recalled over 1,600 candy bars due to an oversight.
