WWE announces main event for Raw debut on Netflix

With just a few weeks until WWE Raw’s Netflix debut, the promotion is doing everything in its power to make the show feel like a WrestleMania event. They continued that trend on Wednesday by announcing one of the bigger main events in “Raw’s” 30-plus year history.

On Wednesday’s “Raw on Netflix Kickoff Special” on YouTube, WWE announcer Michael Cole announced that CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins would be the main event of the first Netflix show of “Raw.” The match was one of two previously confirmed bouts for the show, along with Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa, but it remained unclear which of the two main bouts would close the show.

Punk vs. Rollins has been a long time coming, and the match was first announced when Punk was part of the short-lived “WWE Backstage” program in 2019. After returning to WWE at Survivor Series last year, plans seemed to call for Punk to face Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, but Punk was sidelined with a torn bicep. Punk then began a feud with Drew McIntyre, whom he feuded with throughout 2024 before defeating McIntyre at Hell in a Cell and winning the feud.

After returning from a month’s layoff, Punk turned his attention back to Rollins, who was involved in a feud with Bronson Reed before the latter was injured at Survivor Series: WarGames. There have been several confrontations between Punk and Rollins on “Raw” over the past few weeks, which ultimately escalated into a violent brawl last Monday night.
