First “Superman” teaser brings something you haven’t seen in years

It’s been three years since Henry Cavill’s gritty Superman appeared in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, Seven years since the first cut of Justice League was in cinemas ten years ago The Man of Steel debuted a new Superman at all. It’s also been eighteen years since Brandon Routh debuted as Supe in 2006 Superman returns. That means it’s been a very long time since a new Superman was even seen in a cinema. But now, with the new teaser for James Gunn’s Supermanthat will change soon.

Before the full trailer drops tomorrow, DC has just released a teaser for the new one Superman Film. And it looks very, very classic. Not since the 2006 film Superman returns, has a new version of Superman that is so reminiscent of the beloved Christopher Reeve era of the most famous superhero of all time. And yes, in the music, people are humming a slowed down version of the famous John Williams march from the 1978 film Superman: The Movie

In the teaser we only see the new Superman (David Corenswet) for two brief moments. Firstly, he appears to be flying over an icy terrain – is he heading towards the famous Fortress of Solitude or away from it? Secondly, we see him shooting into the sky of the city of Metropolis. Meanwhile, the rest of the trailer shows the citizens of Metropolis watching, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

Originally titled Superman: Legacy In early development, the new film represents a complete reboot for the DC film universe. Although the new animated series is on HBO Max, Creature Commandsis technically the new beginning of the DCU, the new SupermanFor most people, this will be the location where the flag will be displayed. As is well known, James Gunn directed the film Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel in 2014, but moved to DC two years ago, in 2022.

Recently, Gunn teased that he took a lot of inspiration from not only Supermans of the past, but also a whole new action blockbuster. “We took a lot from films like Top Gun: MaverickGunn told Dem Hollywood Reporter. “We shoot much of our action using real drones that fly in and around Superman and the people he flies with…”

Hopes are high for long-time fans of this classic character. There hasn’t been this much hype surrounding a new superhero movie since perhaps. Avengers: Endgame. Or maybe even Batman begins. But if this teaser is any indication, the next Superman will take us to great heights with a touch of old-fashioned magic.

Superman will be in theaters on July 11, 2025.
