Governor Newsom proclaims Thanksgiving Day 2024

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today issued a proclamation declaring November 28, 2024 as the Thanksgiving Day.

The text of the proclamation and a copy can be found below:

PROCLAMATION

As people across the country come together to celebrate Thanksgiving, we reflect with gratitude on the shared bonds of family, friendship and community that enrich our lives and strengthen us as a people.

As we give thanks for our many blessings, we think of those in need and uncertainty. Many today will honor the holiday through service and volunteerism, demonstrating the boundless generosity and compassion that binds us across a multitude of differences. We are all stronger when we look out for each other and work together to overcome the challenges we face.

On this day, we also celebrate the Native communities who have always called this place home and who have helped us better understand the full and accurate story behind the first Thanksgiving. Let us recognize the immeasurable contributions they have made and continue to make to our state and nation and learn from their example to build a better future for all through partnership, respect and reciprocity.

This season, surrounded by our loved ones, let us renew our shared commitment to one another and strive to live out the enduring ideals of generosity, fellowship and hope for all humanity.

So now it’s me, GAVIN NEWSOMGovernor of the State of California, hereby declares November 28, 2024, a Thanksgiving Day.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have laid my hand upon this and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed on November 27, 2024.
