Winds of up to 80 miles per hour swept across part of Colorado

The National Weather Service has issued a “High Wind Warning” for much of Colorado, including parts of the Denver metropolitan area.

The National Weather Service warning will be activated at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday evening and will last until 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning, including the eastern slopes of the Front Range Mountains and foothills. Wind speeds are expected to be steady between 35 and 50 mph, with some gusts reaching up to 80 mph.

The area where the warning is active includes Estes Park, Evergreen, Breckenridge and Red Feather Lakes, as well as a large mountain range that lies within this general area. Two other areas included in this warning are the western edge of the Denver metro and the area west of Boulder.

Dangers associated with this wind can include flying objects, which can cause problems for the driver, especially on high-profile vehicles. People in affected regions should ensure items are safe outdoors or placed indoors.
