Honolulu Don Quixote Barricade Suspect Identified | News

UPDATE – December 19th, 8am

The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Karon Hayes, who was arrested on charges of criminal damage and arson during the barricade situation in Don Quijote on Wednesday evening.

UPDATE – 12/18, 10:00 p.m

The barricade suspect surrendered from Don Quixote and was taken into police custody at 10:10 p.m. A sergeant at the scene said the man was arrested on charges of arson and criminal damage.

Honolulu police used pepper spray to get him out just before he was picked up.

Honolulu police removed the man from the Don Quixote barricade on Kaheka Street just before 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.



UPDATE – December 18th, 9:30 p.m

Police, SWAT, firefighters and a K-9 unit have been in and out of Don Quijote on Kaheka Street since the barricade began hours ago. At around 9:30 p.m., police carried out a lightning strike

Crowds of people have been waiting outside the store for hours. Some are waiting to finish shopping, check out or start shopping.

There is no information as to why law enforcement will arrest the perpetrator, but it could be disorderly conduct or criminal mischief for damaging merchandise in the store.

Police, SWAT, firefighters and a K-9 unit have responded to the barricade at Don Quixote on Kaheka Street since it began hours ago.



ORIGINAL – December 18th, 6 p.m

HONOLULU (Island News) – Police are investigating a barricade at Don Quixote in Honolulu.

A man reportedly acted aggressively and smashed approximately 20 liquor bottles in the store. He had a lighter and was trying to start a fire. The SWAT team is active on site.

Police continue to respond to the barricade incident at Don Quixote in Honolulu. The SWAT team arrived at the scene and witnesses described what they saw.



People were evacuated from the area shortly after 5:15 p.m

“I had just finished my last minute Christmas shopping and was about to go to the checkout when someone started swearing. I started hearing alcohol bottles and throwing them across the floor. Lots of glasses on the floor, probably about 20 bottles,” explained Raquel Hicks, a witness at the scene.

Police respond to a barricade situation at the Honolulu Don Quixote. People have been evacuated from the store as the investigation continues.



There are no road closures, but police reported traffic in the area.

The Honolulu Fire Department also responded to the scene.
