Tottenham 4-3 Man Utd: Ange Postecoglou ensures Spurs keep their trophy dream alive

Ange Postecoglou claims so His job is more difficult than that of Prime Minister may have been riddled with hyperbole – but his own players did their best to support his arguments on another chaotic evening with Tottenham’s great entertainers.

Spurs eventually beat United with a 4-3 win to reach the last four, but that result hardly does justice to the side’s exceptional evening at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – or some would say it was, given their previous disastrous form was just an ordinary evening.

Ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United, Postecoglou said: “This job is the most difficult in all walks of life. How often does Keir Starmer have a choice? I have one every weekend and I either get voted in or voted out.”

From an electoral perspective, Postecoglou was heading for a landslide with a 3-0 lead after 54 minutes, but thankfully had to make do with a narrow majority in the end.

This came after goalkeeper Fraser Forster gifted United two goals. Son Heung-min’s fourth goal brought some relief to a panic-stricken stadium before Jonny Evans restored the tension for the final seconds with his third for United.

The big motto of Postecoglou’s manifesto is full-throttle entertainment – and in this respect he delivers on every word of his promises.

“Aren’t you entertained?” he asked after an evening that was pure theater, a mix of high quality and farce, but which also brought Spurs actually within sight of Wembley and still in the running for their first silverware since their victory in this competition in 2008.

Entertaining? Most certainly. And the Spurs fans who drifted away on the edge of exhaustion will likely agree once blood pressure returns to normal levels.
