Arkansas QB transfer Malachi Singleton commits to Purdue

Former Arkansas quarterback Malachi Singleton has committed to it Purduehe tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Singleton is best remembered last season for scoring the game-winning rushing touchdown in the Razorbacks’ upset victory over No. 4 seed Tennessee early this season. He finished the year completing 21 of 28 passes for 358 yards and a touchdown.

Singleton was a highly touted four-star quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class. An Elite 11 finalist, he was the No. 23 quarterback in his class and the No. 373 player overall, according to On3 Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that evaluates ratings and rankings of all four primary recruiting media services.

As a junior at North Cobb High School, Singleton rushed for 2,348 yards with 24 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,037 yards and scored another 25 scores, helping him land on the recruiting list. When he was recruited in high school, he chose Arkansas over UCF and Georgia.

“Great job throwing the football,” the Arkansas head coach said Sam Pittman said of Singleton’s play during the season. “I threw it early. Very accurate and ran over a few people. Malachi played extremely well. We’re glad we have him and have a lot of confidence in him when he comes into the game.”

Singleton will look to immediately compete for the starting job and take over a Purdue offense that finished 1-11 last season and 0-9 in Big Ten matchups. They lost the last 11 games of the season.

The portal will officially open on Monday, December 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. If you exclude those who retired or turned professional, the final total came to 2,707 transfers.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, that means about 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in a year.
