LeBron James weighs in on the state of the NBA

LeBron James seemed lukewarm at best about the new format of the NBA All-Star Game, which was announced earlier this week.

But he was concerned about a general trend in the league.

James addressed the All-Star Game changes, which now include a four-team, three-game mini-tournament before the Lakers’ game Thursday night against the Kings in Sacramento.

And while the NBA superstar didn’t express much of an opinion, he did acknowledge that something needed to change in the All-Star Game, which has been plagued by a lack of defensive effort for years.

“I mean, it’s different in some ways,” James told reporters. “But I don’t know, I don’t really have one… We’ll see, we’ll see when we get there. It’s different. It’s clear that with every change you make, you’ll get some money back. I don’t know. I mean, I have my ideas about what could possibly work.”

James said he was not consulted on the All-Star Game format but apparently felt changes needed to be made beyond the All-Star Showcase.

“It’s not just the All-Star Game. It’s our game in general,” James said. “…There’s a lot of fucking threesomes being shot. So it’s a bigger conversation than just the All-Star Game.”

James, one of four Lakers players to have attempted more than 130 3-pointers this year, declined to say how he would address the 3-point problem.

“It’s just a bigger conversation,” he said.

Other NBA stars have voiced their opinions on the change to the All-Star format, with Kevin Durant slamming the changes.

“I absolutely hate it,” he said. “Terrible. All-Star Game formats are changing. In my opinion, all formats are terrible and we should just go back to the East-West system and just play a game. I think we tried to have that flavor with the all-star game. Bringing Star Weekend back somehow, but I think we’ll just stick with the traditional.”
