The Chargers playmaker will be sidelined after the blowout loss in Week 15

The Los Angeles Chargers were one of the most surprising teams in the NFL. The Chargers are in prime position to make the playoffs as they have a two-game lead over the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins.

The Chargers enter Week 16 at 8-6. Los Angeles has lost two straight games, including a tough 40-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Not only were they eliminated, but Los Angeles is also giving running back Gus Edwards fewer snaps. This suggests he is out of the running back rotation.

Rookie running back Kimani Vidal has played more snaps than Gus Edwards over the last two weeks. In Week 14, Vidal had 32 snaps compared to Edwards’ 26 snaps. In week 15, the trend continued in this direction. Against the Bucs, Vidal totaled 35 snaps and Edwards totaled 14 snaps.

Los Angeles is forced to make changes in its backfield with JK Dobbins on IR with an MCL sprain.

The Ohio State product has been the Chargers’ main draw this season with 766 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. With him currently out of the roster, Los Angeles is looking for other options to fill the void.

Edwards signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Chargers this offseason but made no impact on the field. In 2024, he has 297 rushing yards and two scores.

Looking for more juice, Los Angeles took a look at Vidal. The 23-year-old was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and has impressed the team enough to see an increase in snaps. He has accumulated 107 rushing yards and 62 receiving yards this season.

While they wait for Dobbins to return, it looks like the Troy product will be on the back burner for most of the Carriers.
