This Denver Broncos draft guy needs a big game against the Colts

The Denver Broncos have another must-win game here in Week 15 against the Colts, and this draft guy needs to have a huge game. The Colts have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL, so this is another game where the Broncos need to establish the run.

And if we are unable to do that, that would be very bad news. The team has primarily used Javonte Williams, Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin out of the backfield this year. Williams and Estime are strong runners and sometimes difficult to beat, and McLaughlin is the skilled switch player who can also catch passes very well.

It’s time for Javonte Williams to play a big game.

Audric Estime is averaging 4.7 yards per carry and Jaleel McLaughlin is averaging 4.6 yards per tote. However, Javonte Williams is averaging 3.6 yards per carry. Somehow, though, he’s gotten the most carries of anyone else on the roster this year, which just doesn’t make sense to me. It’s likely the fourth-year running back will get significant carries again in this game, and he’ll have a big game.

The Broncos took Williams in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and after an encouraging rookie season in which he shared the backfield with Melvin Gordon, Williams tore his knee early in the 2022 NFL season and just wasn’t there Same back since then. In fact, it was so bad at times that it was almost unplayable.

Williams will have his moments and get some decent carries, but he hasn’t been consistent this year. With the Colts coming to town, the Broncos draft has a big game coming up. Even if he only gets eight carries, for example, he has to make the most of the carries he gets.

He is the most experienced running back on the roster, which may be why he received the most carries.

Either way, the Indianapolis Colts don’t have a good defense. They can be walked on and thrown at. But in any NFL game, establishing the run is always the top priority. Some teams like the Broncos struggle with it from week to week, but other teams just manage it better than most.

Denver has only one game with more than 150 rushing yards this year and four games with double-digit yards on the ground. Considering how well this offensive line is capable of executing block runs, you would think that the running game would become more lively. For me, this is the point at which you know that who is in the backcourt is a personnel question.

Nonetheless, Javonte Williams needs to have a big game.
