Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Release date set for the film’s sequel

A Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is in the works at Paramount Pictures, according to a recent report from Variety.

What do we know about Sonic the Hedgehog 4?

With Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s premiere looming, Variety notes that a fourth film is in the works, and while nothing is currently known about the project, a spring 2027 release date for the film is targeted. Jeff Fowler directed all three films in the series, but it’s unclear whether he or any of the main cast will be willing to return.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 stars Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Krysten Ritter, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves, many of whom reprise their roles from the first two films . The first Sonic the Hedgehog film was released in 2020, with a sequel following in 2022.

So far, the Sonic film series has been a huge success for Paramount, bringing in more than $700 million at the global box office from the first two films alone. The third film is expected to do similarly well, earning an estimated $55 million to $60 million at the box office when it premieres.

In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Ben Schwartz’s titular speedster officially gets a new formidable rival in the form of Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by John Wick star Keanu Reeves. Before Reeves’ casting was confirmed, fans speculated that Star Wars veteran Hayden Christensen could voice the fan-favorite character.

“Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season with his most exciting adventure yet. “Sonic, Knuckles and Tails reunite against a powerful new foe, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers they have never faced before,” reads the official synopsis. “With their abilities inferior in every way, Team Sonic must find an unlikely alliance in the hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.”
