Joe Burrow and Zac Taylor declare their switch at the end of Sunday’s win

After the Bengals clinched a victory over the Titans on Chase Brown’s touchdown with 1:09 left, quarterback Joe Burrow got into a heated conversation with coach Zac Taylor. The broadcast caught the exchange, and Burrow appeared to say “fucking embarrassing” at one point.

Burrow was clearly upset and not for the first time in a win this season.

On Wednesday, both Taylor and Burrow spoke about the exchange.

“He just wanted to tell me happy about the victoryBurrow said, via Jay Morrison of SI.com. “And that’s what I appreciate about him because I can get lost – just like anyone else – you get lost in the adversity of the season and you can’t take a win for granted. I tried to get better at it and Zac tried to help me get better at it. And I appreciate that about him.

“Sometimes it’s hard for me. I want to be great. I want us to be great. Offensively, I want us to be perfect, and when we’re not, it gets frustrating for me. I have to get better, just when we win I’m happy about it. It’s hard to win in this league. And maybe I can do a better job of showing that side of me on a Monday and being happy about the win straight after, rather than letting it all boil over on the sidelines.”

Burrow would be an MVP candidate if the front office had addressed the deficiencies on defense in the offseason. He leads the NFL in attempts (527), completions (361), yards (3,977) and touchdowns (36) and has a passer rating of 107.1.

He wasn’t just good; he was great.

However, the Bengals are just 6-8 with a defense that ranks 31st in points allowed.

Taylor understands that his quarterback’s passion comes from the right place and for the right reasons. That’s what Burrow is all about. . . Building.

“He has a competitive edge that I balance as a head coach because I always try to lead the whole team and balance things, but he has an edge what makes him who he is” Taylor said of Burrow, via Pat Brennan of the Cincinnati Investigators. “And I don’t want to change that for a second, because who he is and what defines him is what sets Joe Burrow apart from everyone else on this planet. So we are together a lot. More than any other member of my family. That’s why I love working with him every day. I love the rough edges on it. It’s not always perfect between us when we’re out there and dealing with moments, but that’s just part of the competition that he has that I love and I wouldn’t change and wouldn’t change a thing about him, every time , if something flares up, let’s move on and quickly pass it.

“But when you have a great player for whom the most important thing is to win and do it right, then that’s the best thing you can have from a leader in your football team who doesn’t accept anything from below.” Standard at all times from anyone. There are teams around the league that are begging for someone to have that standard and we have it, so you have to embrace it and continue to let it lead the way for us.”
