Snow in Ohio on Friday: timing, amount of snowfall, effects

It’s snowing back to central Ohio. The 10 Weather Impact team explains how the weather could impact your day.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a nice stretch of above-average temperatures for central Ohio, another round of snowfall is heading to the region as we wrap up the final week before Christmas.

Good news for motorists, but bad news for those who want a white holiday, this won’t be a big problem Round snowfalland most of it will melt before next week. The culprit for this wintry weather outbreak is a clipper system that will barrel through the region over the next 48 hours, and while accumulations will be light, some impact on your Friday could be possible, especially as we head into lunchtime.

There will be isolated snow showers across the region early Friday morning. There may be a few slippery patches at the start as temperatures drop to near to just below freezing.

As we work our way into midday there will be more snow, but temperatures will also rise to over 30°C at times. This will likely limit impacts on roads but allow for some periods of wintry chaos and possible rain. Drivers should pay attention to possible slippery areas, especially on bridges and overpasses.

In the evening hours the temperatures will drop again and the precipitation will become more isolated but snowier.

With this system, accumulations should be relatively small and only expect about an inch to an inch of dust formation. The extreme maximum can be around 2.5 cm, but the highest accumulations are found in grassy and elevated areas.

Motorists should continue to monitor for slippery roads through early Saturday as untreated and wet surfaces may refreeze overnight.

Temperatures will be colder on the other side of this system. Highs are expected to be only in the low 30s on Saturday, falling into the 20s by Sunday.

Allow a little extra time for your rides on Friday and stay safe in Central Ohio!
