Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky come under fire after introducing new family member: ‘Was he adopted?’

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky welcomed a new family member this week.

The Spanish actress, 48, shared the exciting news on Instagram on Saturday that she and Chris, 41, have gotten a new dog.

The animal, a German Shepherd, comes from Capaill Colored Shepherds, a breeder based in Queensland.

The company promises: “We breed solid, healthy, purebred German Shepherds in delicious colors.”

The average price for this breed is between $3,500 and $4,000, according to online estimates.

Elsa shared a series of pictures of the adorable pup as well as some with the mother of three cuddling the new family member.

“Our new family member, a beautiful German Shepherd,” Elsa wrote in the caption.

However, she soon received criticism from her fans and animal rescue groups for choosing to purchase the animal from a breeder instead of adopting it from a shelter.

“From which rescue was he adopted, because you definitely wouldn’t have bought that from a breeder!!!!” an angry fan asked in her comments on Instagram.

“Dog lovers make it our mission to spread the word.” Adopt, always!!!’ another said.

“Adopt. “Purchase takes away a dog’s chance in a cage,” said another.

“Elsa does not adopt, accept kennel dogs or breed dogs,” another critic chimed in under the pictures.

Kerrin Lee from Jades Dog Rescue NSW also weighed in, telling Yahoo on Monday that “people are surrendering and relinquishing dogs in unprecedented numbers.”

“Adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue saves another dog from death.” “Thousands of unwanted dogs are killed every year,” Kerrin said.

“We always advocate “adopt over shopping,” but we also understand that not everyone wants to adopt a rescue dog.”

Other fans showed their support, with one person writing: “She’s a beautiful girl!” @capaill_colour_gsd_australia are fantastic ethical breeders.

“We have two boys from them, one is your daughter’s brother from the same litter!” “Such beautiful dogs.”

Another said: “So what, doesn’t that puppy deserve a family that wants him just because someone else put him up for sale?”

“As if it was the dog’s fault.” “Adoption is fine, but I don’t see a problem with someone wanting to buy everything. Puppies deserve to have someone love them.”

“Oh my god those floppy ears,” one wrote, while another said: “Wow, looks like a wolf.”

Meanwhile, someone else said: “Oh my god, so fluffy!”

The new addition to the family joins Elsa, Chris, their twin sons Tristan and Sasha (10) and daughter India (12).

The family live in Byron Bay in a sprawling $30 million eight-bedroom villa set on a huge 4.2 hectare property in Broken Head.

Elsa revealed that she wasn’t always convinced about moving Down Under and that she had a very specific condition for Chris before her move.

Elsa, who is originally from Madrid, admitted she told Chris she would only move to Australia if they lived on a sprawling farm where she could have horses.

“That was my deal with Chris,” she told the Courier Mail.

“I said I was moving to Australia, but I wanted to live on property, a farm, and have horses, and he knew that.”

Elsa also gave a candid insight into her relationship with Chris, revealing their secret to a happy marriage even though they faced many challenges over the years.

“I think we all have this idea that this beautiful dream of marriage and loving each other and everything being perfect, but it’s a lot more work than you think,” she said.

“It comes with so many challenges, but it’s nice to grow into those challenges and learn from each other and learn how we change over the years and how we adapt to each other.”

“From the outside you might think a marriage is perfect, but everyone has their stuff and everyone needs a lot of work.”

Elsa and Chris will celebrate their 14th anniversary on December 22, although she admitted they rarely remember their anniversary.

While it may seem like a relationship faux pas, Elsa insisted the date is easy to forget because it’s so close to Christmas and said they laugh about it every year.

Elsa gushed about her husband and also admitted she had always wanted a “partner for life” as she revealed she wants to grow old with Thor actor Chris.

Elsa and Chris married in December 2010 in an impromptu ceremony while on holiday in Australia, just three months after they went public with their relationship and ten months after they first met.

Five years later they moved to Byron Bay after purchasing their forever home in the coastal paradise for $7.6 million.
