Netflix has secured the FIFA Women’s World Cup for 2027 and 2031

Netflix has secured exclusive US rights to the FIFA Women’s World Cup for 2027 and 2031 – another big step by the streaming giant to further expand into the sport. This will be the first time the event has ever been broadcast on a streaming service.

In addition to live coverage, Netflix will produce an exclusive documentary program leading up to the tournament, highlighting the world’s best players, their journey and the global growth of women’s football.

The 32 best teams from around the world will compete in 12 cities at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Brazil from June 24 to July 25.

The rights deal comes as Netflix continues to expand its sports coverage and follows the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, which was broadcast live and became the most-streamed sporting event of all time. Netflix is expanding its NFL coverage with two NFL games on Christmas Day.

This isn’t Netflix’s first foray into women’s soccer either, as the streamer released a documentary about the U.S. women’s soccer team last year.

“Our record-breaking success with Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor demonstrated the strong interest in women’s sports and live programming,” said Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer. “I’ve seen the fan base for the FIFA Women’s World Cup grow tremendously – from the electric atmosphere in France in 2019 to the incredible energy in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. It’s not just about this legendary tournament “To bring streaming games to Netflix – it’s about celebrating the players, culture and passion that are driving the rise of women’s sports around the world.”

“This is a milestone for sports media rights,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “As a top brand and new long-term partner of FIFA, Netflix has demonstrated a very strong commitment to the growth of women’s football. This agreement sends a strong message about the true value of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and global women’s football. The collaboration between FIFA and Netflix makes this a truly historic day for broadcasting and women’s football. In addition to broadcasting the tournaments themselves, Netflix will play a key role in making the fascination of women’s football accessible to an audience of millions in the run-up to both finals, thereby further increasing its appeal.”
