Police said all four suspects jumped into the bayou. Three were caught, but one was still at large.

HOUSTON – A body was recovered Friday morning during the search for a suspect involved in a chase in a stolen car, according to Houston police.

Houston police said they arrested three of the four men, but the fourth suspect jumped in Buffalo Bayou near Jensen Drive. Around 6 a.m., police said they found a deceased man.

Police said all four suspects and the stolen vehicle they were in were from Fort Worth. It’s not clear why they were in the Houston area.

According to police, it all started near the Southwest Freeway and Bissonnet when officers spotted a stolen Kia Sorento. Officers attempted to stop the suspects, leading to a nearly 20-minute chase that ended on Jensen Drive when the vehicle crashed into a guardrail near the bayou.

Police said two suspects surrendered and two others jumped into the bayou. One of them immediately called for help and said he couldn’t swim. The police were able to save him. He remains in critical condition in hospital.

The fourth suspect went under and dive teams were called in.

“We don’t know for sure if he’s there in the bayou and possibly drowned, but we’re going to search really hard,” said HPD Lt. R. Willkens. “Dive teams are coming out right now, all of our rescue personnel.” Guys, and we’ll do our best to find him if he’s in there.

The suspects are all young men between the ages of 19 and 20.
