Game Awards 2024 reach record viewership with 154 million live streams

The Game Awards achieved record viewership with its 2024 show on December 12, drawing an estimated 154 million live streams worldwide. That’s 31% more than the 2023 show with 118 million live streams.

According to the Game Awards, which celebrated its 10th anniversary with the 2024 show, the peak viewership of 2024 was achieved with streams on YouTube, Twitch, Steam, TikTok Live, X, Instagram Live and Facebook. Additionally, the show reached its global viewership milestone amid a record number of streaming platforms in China, including Bilbili, Huya, Weibo, WeChat, Douyin, Zhihu, DouYu, Baidu, NetEase CC, Tencent Video, QQ, Kuishou, HeyBox; in South Korea or CHZZK and Soop and NicoNico in Japan.

Unlike most other high-profile awards shows, the indie event hosted by gaming industry star Geoff Keighley does not have an exclusive streaming deal with a broadcaster or streaming service.

The top winner of the 2024 Game Awards was Team Asobi and PlayStation’s “Astro Bot,” which won four awards including Game of the Year. Other big winners included “Metaphor: ReFantazio” and “Balatro.”

According to StreamCharts, Twitch, YouTube and other platforms outside Asia and Pacific combined saw more than 4 million peak concurrent viewers, up more than 10% from the 2023 Game Awards.

Notable presenters at this year’s awards ceremony included Aaron Paul, Ella Purnell, Harrison Ford, Hideo Kojima, Isabella Merced, Khalid, Laura Bailey, Sam Lake, Shannon Woodward, Statler + Waldorf, Swen Vincke, Sydnee Goodman, Todd Howard and Troy Bake. The show included musical performances from Twenty One Pilots and Snoop Dogg.
