Lana’ after many, many delays

After much anticipation among their fan base, Lana has finally arrived.

SZA released SOS Deluxe: LANAa new, expanded version of their second album, on Friday December 20th, after various delays. The 38-track project includes 14 brand new songs in addition to the previously released “Saturn” and all 23 songs from the original SOS.

It was originally scheduled to be released at midnight on December 20th, but the 35-year-old “Good Days” singer previously said that “the full deluxe album will be out first thing tomorrow morning.”

“(I had to get my mixes right lol! All the songs are being delivered and added to the system as we speak 🙂‍↕️ Please be kind. We’ve been up for days,” she captioned on Instagram alongside a moody visualizer their deluxe song “Fahren.”

When morning came, fans wondered why it hadn’t sunk and shared their thoughts on social media.

Then, at 10:27 a.m. PT, Terrence “Punch” Henderson of SZA’s Top Dawg Entertainment label announced in a post shared with X that the deluxe album would be released at 12 p.m. PT. “It’s my fault,” he wrote.

Fans flooded the social media site with memes as they waited for the album’s release. A fan shared his feelings with a video of Adele watching a basketball game unimpressed. “I act like Idc towards Lana so it goes faster,” the X user wrote.

Another user shared a compilation of Sarah Hyland’s character posing for mugshots Modern family and captioned the post: “It would have been a crime for me to open Spotify every hour to check in on SZA dropping Lana.”

Another user shared a GIF of a confused-looking woman, referencing the artist’s 2017 hit “Broken Clocks.” He wrote, “So SZA are these clocks broken?? #LANA.”

SZA – who is set to tour with Kendrick Lamar in 2025 – has been teased for the first time LANA in December 2023.

A year later, on December 16, she officially confirmed LANA would be released on December 20th. She made the announcement alongside a clip of Ben Stiller in the video for her then-unreleased track “Drive,” which appears as part of the project.

In December 2023, SZA celebrated the one-year anniversary of SOS by reflecting on the milestones she has achieved since release.

“A day late but happy on the 1 year anniversary of an album that ACTIVELY CHANGES MY LIFE…just like it’s currently changing my life,” she began. “I haven’t processed this year at all because it’s still happening. This is beyond my wildest dreams. I never imagined we would achieve even a fraction of the accolades that resulted.”

“It often doesn’t feel real and it’s funny because I swore I knew what to do if it ever happened. 😂 Turns out I froze. I know the dangers of drinking the Koolaid, so I will not engage in it,” SZA continued. She added that she must “express the immense GRATITUDE I feel for every person who does this made possible. Every person involved in this journey.”

SOS spent ten weeks on the billboard 200, and the single “Kill Bill” became her first No. 1 on the billboard Hot 100. The album earned her three Grammy Awards in February.
