Luigi Mangione could join SBF and Sean “Diddy” Combs in 15-person prison unit in coming days: report

UnitedHealthcare CEO Luigi Mangione’s alleged killer could join disgraced rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and crypto scammer Sam Bankman-Fried in a protective prison unit as early as Monday – as the high-profile inmates remain in the same federal prison imprisoned in New York City.

According to Business Insider, Mangione, 26, will reportedly live with Combs and Bankman-Fried in a 15-person protective custody unit at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, reserved for those who need special security, when he is released from solitary confinement.

The suspected bomber was booked into the infamous prison Thursday after being extradited from Pennsylvania to the Big Apple, where he faces federal murder charges for the brazen execution of 50-year-old Brian Thompson on Dec. 4 outside the Midtown Hilton. and must be prosecuted at the federal level.

Mangione is currently in a small solitary cell within the special housing facility — also known as “SHU” and “the hole” — and is receiving psychiatric care until at least Monday, the outlet reported.

The University of Pennsylvania graduate eats his meals in his cinder-block cell, with inmates in his special unit usually given one hour a day to relax or bathe. Guards are also expected to check on him every 15 minutes, a prison consultant told Business Insider.

“Pathetic, just pathetic,” is how Sam Mangel described the prison conditions.

“SHUs are notoriously loud. There are people there who complain about psychiatric problems, disciplinary issues, or drug withdrawal. So it’s the loudest place in the prison – people knock on their doors at all hours of the night.”

The suspected shooter is also being treated by “some nurses and doctors” who support the cold-blooded killing and have expressed interest in donating funds to his legal cause, sources told The Post.

Federal authorities have made allegations against the Ivy League player that could earn him the death penalty. The case will run parallel to the New York case, where he is charged at the state level with 11 counts – including first-degree murder and terrorism charges.

Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on December 9 after leading police on a five-day manhunt that ended after an employee recognized him from NYPD surveillance images.

The infamous Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park is plagued by stories of “barbaric” and “reprehensible” conditions for inmates.

The prison itself has come under intense scrutiny in recent years due to a spate of vicious attacks on inmates and complaints about dismal living conditions – including worm- and maggot-infested food, dirty cells and power outages.

Along with the trio of inmates, notorious sex offenders R. Kelly and Ghislaine Maxwell were held at the complex.

A handful of admirers stood outside the federal prison Friday afternoon, hoping to one day see Mangione as a celebrated free man.

“I support Luigi’s message that we need to do something about the health care system in the United States,” Morgan, a 30-year-old self-employed person from Brooklyn, told The Post.

“Luigi speaks for the voice of the people. We want better healthcare, we want it to be affordable. “It’s all happening here and it’s nonsense that he’s being treated like a terrorist!” I think the accusation of terrorism is completely disproportionate.”

Mangione will next appear in federal court on Jan. 18. A date for his arraignment in Manhattan on his federal charges has not yet been set.
