Thanksgiving Travel Forecast: Dry Wednesday, rain or snow Thursday for Massachusetts, New England

Just stay at home. IN ORDER. YES, EXACTLY. OK, let’s talk about what’s going on because you see there’s some storms out west that are coming here at some point. At least the wet weather we are dealing with now will soon be over. BUT IT’S THIS REGION HERE BACK TOWARD THE ROCKIES THAT WILL SHIFT INTO THE MIDWEST TOMORROW. SO YOU CAN SEE TOMORROW AT 8 PM THAT OUR STORM IS REALLY GETTING TOGETHER. It’s still a long way from us. So the ups and downs on the East Coast will be fine tomorrow. BUT THEN HERE COMES TOMORROW NIGHT. And on Thanksgiving morning, just before sunrise, wet weather arrives from the Mid-Atlantic to New England. This means that the parades that are planned, the Macy’s Day parade in New York, look wet. Yes, and we will have wet weather here with snow in parts of northern New England. So this will definitely impact your travel plans. Come to Thanksgiving. So the rain that’s out there now will taper off between 3 and 5 p.m., we’ll clear it out this evening. TOMORROW LOOKS GOOD. IT’S GOOD FOR TRAVEL. IT’S JUST THIS RAIN AND SNOW THAT WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH HERE ON Thanksgiving Day. And most of the accumulation will really be in the mountains. HIGHER TERRAIN WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE WITH THIS STORM SYSTEM. The sea is still quite warm. THERE WILL NOT BE MUCH COLD AIR BUT STILL THERE WILL BE GOOD SNOW FOR THE SKI AREA AND LOCALLY THE BERKSHIRES AND NORTHERN WORCESTER HILLS MAY ALSO GET A LITTLE CONNECTION. First of all, we had a little rain today. YOU CAN SEE THE AMOUNTS ARE UNDER A QUARTER OF AN INCH. Many of us are less than a tenth of an inch tall. BUT WE’RE NOT DONE YET. There has been some icing, with some freezing rain in parts of central and northern New England. There have been a few incidents on the roads up there. A LOT OF THIS IS NOW STARTING TO LESS BECAUSE TEMPERATURES ARE RISING ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND THE ROUTE TWO CORRIDOR AND THE PRECIPITATION IS VERY LIGHT BUT LIGHT RAIN IS CONTINUING AND YOU CAN NOW SEE IT’S JUST COMING TO THE CAPE. BUT THE BACK EDGE, FROM SPRINGFIELD TO HARTFORD. So it won’t stay that way for long. That’s why I say this will continue to shift in the next 3 to 4 hours. IN WORCESTER IT’S ONLY 37, IN JAFFREY IT’S 34. AND THEN LOOK HOW MUCH MILDER IT IS DOWN NEAR THE SOUTH COAST. We are currently in the low 50s. TEMPERATURES WON’T CHANGE MUCH THIS AFTERNOON. We’re unlikely to get to 40 degrees here near and north of this Route Two corridor. BUT THE RAIN IS ENDING. So it’s gone in Boston at 5 p.m. And then we’ll clear out the sky tonight. So it’s raining. THE CLOUDS ALSO disappear. The sky will actually be mostly clear this evening. IT’S GETTING COOL. We’re in the upper 20s and mid 30s tonight. TOMORROW LOOKS GOOD AGAIN. MOSTLY SUNNY, A LITTLE BREEZE WITH WEST WIND, 10 TO 15 TEMPERATURES ON BOTH SIDES OF 50 DEGREES. That’s why I say tomorrow is a good day to get out of there. EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT JUST TRAVELING TO run SOME errands. The weather looks great. THEN WE GO FROM TOMORROW NIGHT INTO Thanksgiving morning and just before sunrise. Look, it’s starting to rain, both in the north and in the west. It’s cold enough right from the start that it could snow. SO THE TEMPERATURES DO NOT CHANGE TOO MUCH. WE WILL HAVE SUCH A RUSH EASTERN WIND IN THE WARMER SEA AIR THAT WILL KEEP THE TEMPERATURES WARM ENOUGH TO RAIN UP TO 495°. BUT THIS RAIN accompanies us ALL DAY. So that means everything you have planned outside. TURKEY TRATS, THOSE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAMES, THEY WILL BE WET NORTH AND WEST OF 495. IT IS COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER ALTITUDES. And then as the storm starts to retreat, you can see that it’s basically right over Cape Cod. On Thursday evening, Thanksgiving evening, winds will begin to shift to the north and northwest, and that could pull in enough cold air that we MIGHT TRY TO SEE A QUICK FLIP INTO THE SNOW. A LITTLE CLOSER TO BOSTON. IT WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. As far as accumulation goes, getting maybe an inch of 495 back into the WORCESTER area will get you closer to route two. IT IS POSSIBLE FROM 1 TO 3 INCHES, PARTICULARLY AT THE HIGHER ALTITUDES. AND THEN IT GOES NORTH TO THE MONADNOCK REGION AND BACK TO THE BERKSHIRES. And we could see 3 to 6 inches of snow there. It is obvious that this will have some impact on your travels. WE’RE CLEARING IT OUT FRIDAY AND THE REST OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND LOOKS DRY. BUT LOOK AT THE TEMPERATURES. UPPER 30S SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY. Yes, that’s actually a shot of cold air, temperatures are almost ten degrees below average. And it looks like the cold is settling in
