Jon Sumrall says Josh Remetich’s knee injury is not serious | Tulane

TAMPA, Fla. – Fifth-year senior offensive guard Josh Remetich suffered a knee injury in the first quarter, was carted off the field and did not return in Tulane’s 33-8 loss to Florida on Friday in the Gasparilla Bowl.

Sixth graders Caleb Thomas replaced him and went the rest of the way, but coach Jon Sumrall said the injury was not as serious as it seemed at first glance. Remetich, a Holy Cross product playing his final college game, was able to stand up on his old cart with the help of trainers and walk to the cart.

“Rem’s (injury) is nothing major,” Sumrall said. “It looked like maybe an MCL sprain. It wasn’t stable enough to return. He’ll be fine, but he wasn’t able to finish the game.”

Tulane had avoided significant injury on offense all year by featuring the same five starters in every game, with the exception of Thomas, who started as a backup for its home game against Temple.

Security Jack Tchienchou He also left the team in the first half and was unable to return.

“His back was kind of locked up,” Sumrall said of Tchienchou. “There was a slight muscle strain in his lower back. At first I thought he was running out of breath, but it was like a pulled muscle. He’ll be fine. It was nothing serious.”

Douglas had two tackles. He started at strong safety against Samford and Texas A&M earlier in the year, but lost his job after struggling in a 33-20 loss to the Aggies and was unable to get it back, starting just eight of his 23 games after September managed tackles.
