Higgins: Social Security Fairness Act becomes law

Washington, DC – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act (SSFA), is on the President’s desk for passage in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to be able to step.

“Finally justice for our elders, thank God, finally justice for our beloved elders. We have broken the yoke of the unjust law and followed God’s command to honor our mothers and fathers.” said Congressman Higgins.

Congressman Higgins was one of the strongest and most vocal supporters of the bill that repeals the unfair Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO), which penalize millions of public employees across the United States.

For seven years, Congressman Higgins has advocated for the passage of the Social Security Fairness Act. He co-sponsored legislation in every Congress he served.

His efforts include:

  • December 14, 2017 – Co-sponsored the Social Security Fairness Act for the 115th Congress.
  • January 17, 2019 – Co-sponsored the Social Security Fairness Act for the 116th Congress.
  • February 1, 2021 – Co-sponsored the Social Security Fairness Act for the 117th Congress.
  • August 16, 2022 – Personally appealed to Speaker Pelosi demanding a vote on the Social Security Fairness Act. Read more here.
  • September 30, 2022 – Signed for the 15th time on a dismissal motion to force a vote in the House of Representatives on the bill.
  • January 10, 2023 – Co-sponsored the Social Security Fairness Act for the 118th Congress.
  • November 20, 2023 – Endorsed the bill during an on-site hearing in the House Ways and Means Committee. View here.

  • September 10, 2024 – Became the 8th signature on the dismissal motion that forced a vote in the House of Representatives on the bill.
