There will be no snow in most parts of the United States on Christmas

Well, at least the snow globes will have a white Christmas.

Most of the United States will not see snow on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said in a forecast Friday, although parts of the Rocky Mountains, Minnesota, Wisconsin and other areas near the Canadian border could be lucky.

“There will be green and brown grass across much of the U.S. on Christmas Day — not exactly what Bing Crosby was raving about!” the weather service wrote Friday.

Other parts of the country, including Kansas, Oklahoma, most of Pennsylvania and other areas of the country, were marked “Good luck next year” on a map the weather agency distributed ahead of the holiday.

But all is not lost: some parts of the North East were forecast to see possible snow showers on Tuesday, the day before Christmas.

Plattsburgh, New York, near the U.S.-Canada border, has a 50 percent chance of snow showers Tuesday. Glens Falls has a 40% chance. But these forecasts are for the day, not Tuesday evening.

Buffalo, known for its snow, is expected to see snow Monday evening and Tuesday morning, but then it will likely rain and will likely be cloudy on Christmas Eve.

However, the regional weather service said the Rochester area could see snow showers before 7 p.m., meaning it could happen as Santa Claus is on his way to jump out of the chimneys there. The area has a 30% chance of precipitation Tuesday night.

Whether it snows or not, millions of travelers were expected to take to the skies on the Friday before Christmas and Hanukkah, the Transportation Security Administration said.

Friday and Saturday are expected to be the busiest in the U.S. during the holiday season, the agency said. On Thursday, before the predicted rush, there were 2.6 million airline passengers, according to TSA statistics.

The AAA said earlier this month that it was forecasting record numbers of travelers in the U.S. by the end of the year.

The organization expects 119 million people to travel in the U.S. from Saturday through Jan. 1, about 65,000 more than the previous record set in 2019. Most, about 90%, will drive, it said .
