Greg McElroy references “Mean Girls” to take on Arch Manning before CFP

For all the star power associated with quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning, Texas has handled its situation at football’s most important position in a rock-solid manner over the past two years.

In 2023, Ewers played the majority of the snaps and led the Longhorns to a Big 12 title and the College Football Playoff. In 2024, Ewers drove the bus again, Manning got significant playing time, and Texas made the CFP again.

In the Friday edition of Stand upFormer Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy praised Texas’ handling of the situation – and referenced an unexpected classic film.

“There is a moment in the Mean Girls “A movie that says, ‘Stop trying to make Fetch happen,'” McElroy said. “That’s pretty much what I’m going to say about this Arch thing.” Let’s stop making Arch his uncles now. He will get there.

The quote in question comes from Regina George (Rachel McAdams) to Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert), who spends part of the film passing off “fetch” as a trendy adjective.

Manning — the nephew of legendary former Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning and Ole Miss quarterback Eli Manning — has thrown nine touchdowns against two interceptions this season. His team opens CFP play on Saturday against Clemson.
